About

A Little Bit About Myself;
My name is Ceara (pronounced Cara, it get's more complicated with middle names.) and I'm a 21 year old Irish girl who recently graduated from college. I studied acting in college in Dundalk Institute of Technology and am now living in Dublin where all the craic is at! Acting is an extremely difficult industry to rely on solely so when I'm not acting, I'm popping up in random playgrounds (that sounds awfully wrong, please read on...) and events face painting! I'm quite an artistic person and there's no better canvas than someone's face! My hobbies include reading, guitar, fencing, fire poi and writing (surprise, surprise). I have a huge love and passion for animals and animal welfare and of course, a deep hunger to travel!

Why I Blog;
Last August I left the continent for the first ever time to volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary in South Africa for 4 weeks. I had to pay a volunteer contribution of €1,200 and then flights, insurance and vaccinations on top of that meant I had to save a whole €2,212.52 for everything (not even including spending money) and I couldn't do all that without fundraising. With no income, was no way I could save all that in a year! So I thought of creating my first blog which you can find here, so I could keep everyone updated on the fundraising process and then once I went to Africa I could let them know what I was doing and what everyone's donations and support went towards. I thought it was only fair that I gave something back considering so many people helped me get there.

       The blog was more of a success than I thought it would be with people from all over the world reading it and gaining an ever increasing audience. I received such nice feedback from people on Facebook saying they loved reading my posts and felt as if I was talking directly to them. Having enjoyed blogging so much I was disappointed the trip to Africa was over. What was I going to talk about now??

       Then BOOM. An (energy efficient) light-bulb appeared above my head. I realized a lot of people found some of my thoughts and experiences hilarious as I  am so untraveled. Why not let them know about any future travels and adventures I go on while sharing my lessons learned along the way? And heck, if at least one person is entertained by it then job well done!

What I Blog About;
I have only been to 3 countries in my 21 years of life which is a lot less than what I hear from other people! Financially, my life would be considered of the 'lower class' criteria. We learned to live without a lot but we were healthy and happy and had a warm home to go to so I know already we have more than what 1 billion of the world's population has put together. This is by no means a "Ooh pity me" / "I'm like Jenny from the block" statement, just a simple explanation for why we didn't holiday abroad. My holidays consisted of driving to the 'Wesht' and camping in some field or on Achill island or in a family friend's garden. Most of the time my parents just holidayed by shipping me and my brothers off to various relatives and they'd stay at home. Now one time, my dad was working in Rome and was earning enough to fly the family over for our first ever holiday abroad (the excitement was unbearable! !). I was 8 years old and spent 3 months in Rome. I loved it and visited there again for a few days when I got my first job and could afford the trip! Other than the Africa trip mentioned above, I've been to London a few times and went on a day trip to Oakwood theme park in Wales with school. That pretty much sums up where I've been!

      I have a huge hunger to travel now that I've tasted Africa and I want to share my experiences with you. In between trips, I'll share what I've learned, provide some tips and provide inspiration for you to travel! Do's and Don'ts are always a help to. Wish I had some of those before I decided to be adventurous with airplane food and ended up being violently ill in the toilet of a train-station...

      So yes! Fun times ahead, come laugh with/at me and enjoy the ride. To sign off, here is a picture of me looking excited (like how I feel about this project), with a monkey sitting on my head. Enjoy!

Much love/grá,

      Ceara (:
